He plans to improve upon last season’s campaign in which the team finished with an MLB-worst 115 losses. This press release intrigued me because I am a diehard Orioles fan looking to see improvement in the team’s performance.
The five-paragraph press release captured the main point in the lede. After directly quoting General Manager Mike Elias in the second paragraph, the author provided a brief synopsis of Hyde’s managerial career in the next two paragraphs before ending the piece with a summary of Hyde’s four-year playing career. The press release contained a few exceptions to AP style, including a non-abbreviated version of the word December followed by a date, all-capitalized and bolded versions of names when first referenced and capitalization of titles written after peoples’ names. No boilerplate information was included in the piece.
